MFAA Prosper : Mortgage and Finance Brief 05
Stand out fro m the crowd “ Without promotion something terrible happens...nothing! ” P.T. Barnum, 19th century circus owner. us to commence doing business with other agg regation groups and has increased our presence in the market.” For Horizon Financial, entering the awards has helped the company to become more professional and more resilient. “It took us three years of being a finalist, building processes, constantly improving our model and adopting judges’ feedback to win our category,” says Mark Turnbull, Managing Director of Horizon Financial. “It was worth every minute we invested. The exposure the award has brought Horizon Financial, on both a national and local level has been unparalled by any other awards process that we have been in.” Participating in the MFAA Excellence Awards also allows you to benchmark your business against your competitors, to see where the competitive advantages lie and to identify who truly understands best practice. “The MFAA Excellence Awards are a fantastic way of seeing how your business compares with others in the same category, whether you win or not,” says Schroeder. Producing a g reat submission probably takes time away from normal business for a short period, yet many of our past winners have confirmed that the personal and business rewards for doing so far surpass the time spent. This is particularly significant coming out of an incredibly difficult time such as the GFC, when many companies were struggling to survive, let alone reach higher goals. Sometimes it’s during the most challenging times that people’s creativity kicks in and they come up with solutions that they wouldn’t have thought of other wise – and these are the stories we want to hear about in the nominations! “ What’s in it for me?” you ask. Well, apart from the accolades you receive from colleag ues within the organisation, being a winner also catapults you to a new level of success in the eyes of your clients and the wider industry – bringing free promotional, networking and brand building opportunities your way. A competitive advantage Earlier this year, Mildura Finance and Horizon Financial jointly took home the 2010 MFAA Finance Broking Business of the Year Award and the 2010 MFAA Operator of the Year Award. Mildura Financial Executive Director Peter Schroeder experienced firsthand the positive effects of winning. “ We are now recognised at a national level for the services we provide, rather than being seen as just a little country broker,” Schroeder says. “This in turn has enabled Nominations close 15 October We’ve simplified the process this year, to make it even easier for you to get involved. People who are making nominations for an individual can do so, then wait to see if they have been selected by our judge to proceed to the submission stage, and then make a submission. Or you can choose to make a full submission straight away, and by-pass that preliminary judging step. 1Nominations are open online until 15 October 2010 via www.mfaaexcellenceawards. com.au . For individual categories, you have the choice of either making your submission after nominating, or entering a preliminary judging process first. 2For those who are making a submission after nominating, complete written submissions (five pages maximum) can be made addressing the 2011 Award criteria. For those who chose to go through the preliminary judging process, the MFAA will be in contact prior to 25 October 2010 to advise whether each nomination is proceeding to the submission stage or not. The closing date for all submissions is 10 December 2010. The MFAA recommends having someone else double-check submissions to make sure everything is covered. 3Enjoy the fun and be prepared to work with the MFAA to promote yourself or the nominated business if the submission makes it through the external judging process as one of the finalists in the field.
